Two Gentlemen on the Beach (Zwei Herren am Strand)

Two gentlemen go out for a walk on the beach. They do not know who the other is, but they discover that they share some major experience - depression. And they conclude an inalienable agreement: "If one of us ever needs help, then the other, wherever he may be, will drop everything and come immediately." This is how Charles Chaplin and Winston Churchill met, at least in this novel. Then a strange kind of strong bond between one of the greatest comedians and one of the greatest statesmen begins to unfold. It is not important which of the quoted sources is real and which is made up by the author; in any case, he has described a deeply human image of two great personalities whose lives have been linked in an extraordinary way.
