Wil (Will)

It is war. The occupied city of Antwerp is dominated by violence and distrust. Wilfried Wils considers himself as a beginning poet, but, at the same time, he has to make a living as an assistant police officer. His friend Luďa is, rather irrationally, engaged in the resistance movement and illegal activity, while Wilfried's artistic mentor is a sworn anti-Semite. Wilfried navigates his way cautiously between the two worlds to survive. After many years, he tells his story to his great-grandson and shows him that no one is blameless. Wil is a harsh, ambitious and versatile novel in which no one will be spared. The author questions the boundaries between good and evil, guilt and innocence, and searches the conscience of those who have seen nothing and have heard nothing, either in the 20th or 21st centuries.
