The tunnels under the National Theatre are about 150 years old. Prior to the construction of the theatre, they were used to transport merchandise from boats at the Vltava riverbank. Currently, they are used for fresh air intake for air conditioning in this historic building. The tunnels were devastated by the 2002 floods, and therefore underwent major reconstruction ten years later.
